Chapter 1267 Mission Statement:
To promote aviation and to foster education of our members and the youth of our community.
Chapter 1267 Goals and Actions:
Goal I: Promote education and career
development in all areas of aviation.
Note: This is Chapter 1267's primary goal. All fundraising
monies go to this goal as described in actions 1. and 2. below.
Chapter 1267's major fundraiser is the annual Pancake Breakfast
Fly-In.
Actions:
1. Award EAA Air Academy Scholarships for Grand County young persons
ages 13-17.
As of August 2009, 11 students have attended the Air Academy with
the Chapter's contribution exceeding $12,000.
2. Grant College Scholarships for graduates
of both East and West Grand High for study in all areas of aviation.
Scholarships are $1,000 each and, as of August 2009, $11,000 has
been awarded.
3. Conduct Young Eagles Flights for Grand County
youths ages 10 -17.
As of August 2009, Chapter 1267 has flown nearly 400 young people
on their first light aircraft flight to promote interest in aviation
and scholarship opportunities. All costs are borne by each individual
pilot. No chapter funds are used.
4. Cooperate with the Denver-based "Wings Over the Rockies" educational outreach by hosting an all-day activity for all East Grand fifth graders both in their classrooms and hands-on activities at the airport.
5. Involvement in the community and schools by serving as speakers/presenters at school/community activities, classroom presenters and road and airport clean up.
6. Promote the building of "home built"
aircraft by chapter members.
As of August 2009, 11 aircraft have been "born" at the
Granby airport. This activity is advisory only. Chapter funds
are not used to support members' building activities.
Goal II: Facilitate social interaction of members - team building.
A wide variety of activities are planned annually such as breakfast with spouses/significant others, fly-outs, bowling, hangar and Christmas parties, etc. No chapter funds are used for these activities.
Goal III: Chapter 1267 development.
In order to achieve our stated goals, it is necessary, from time to time, and by a vote of the members, to use funds for such things as audio visual devices, measuring instruments, one of a kind single-use tools, etc. Funds for these activities come only from member dues or other donations clearly given for such use.
Goal IV: Promote aviation skills and knowledge though fly-outs.
Fly-outs are planned on a regular basis and range as far as the West Coast or as close as an area airport for breakfast. No Chapter funds are used for these activities.
Goal V: Provide support for Granby-Grand County airport.
A number of events have been held, such as a "town meeting" with the County Board of Commissioners, involvement of the Granby mayor, working with the school districts in Grand County and individual classrooms, writing of newspaper articles and other cooperative efforts with the "Friends of the Granby Airport" group. No Chapter funds are used for these activities.
Goal VI: Develop a Chapter 1267 "Education Center".
In order to advance the Chapter's mission and goals, it is critical that a space be acquired/built to conduct educational programs, build Chapter aircraft projects, hold meetings and store Chapter tools, educational materials and fundraising equipment. Such a facility would serve as a central location for all Chapter activities. Funds for this goal would come from designated fund raising activities and donations.
